Q. The Fall/Holiday 2008 campaign was shot on your private island in Tahiti. What inspired you to move the shoot there?
A. I wanted to shoot the campaign on the island because it is the best place for light…It’s amazing; you always get a great result! It’s also very inspiring for the team.
Q. How did shooting the campaign on an island differ from being in a studio?
A. You always have more freedom when you shoot outdoors. And, after a couple of days on the island, the model always looks fresher and more beautiful than when she is in the city with pollution.
Q. Why is Pamela Bernier the perfect face for Fall/Holiday 2008? In what way does she capture the essence of NARS?
A. She is young and dynamic and has very classic yet beautiful features, such as her gorgeous blue eyes. She also has a very modern attitude.
Q. Did you have a female icon in mind when you were shooting Pamela for Fall/Holiday 2008? Is there a particular look or mood you were trying to create through the shoot?
A. No, not this time. I had a very modern woman in mind; edgy and sure of herself, sophisticated and strong, and very in touch with the current fashion.
Q. What was your favorite part of the shoot?
A. Styling. Since we didn’t have a stylist on this campaign, I had to choose the clothes for each shot and be sure they worked with each makeup look.
Q. What is your favorite color combination from the Fall/Holiday 2008 collections?
A. I love all the different shades of gold…They give the face and skin an amazing glow and transparency. It looks very sophisticated and glamorous but still very fresh. And, the dark shades for the eyes; they are wonderful and give a more dramatic look that is very sexy and sensual. I also love the sheerness of the lipstick shades – they are full of pigment, but very lightweight.
